Q&A

How do I sign up for classes?

Click on Schedule a Class to sign up. Just create a username and password, select a class/package for purchase, and you're all set.

What do I need to bring to class?

Wear workout pants or capris, and a tank top or t-shirt. Socks are required for all classes. We have bottled water available at the studio for $1 but feel free to bring your own water. We provide the mats and equipment, as well as a changing room and lockers for your convenience.

What can I expect at my first class?

If you've never taken a barre based class before (or even if you have), you may find that you're working out muscles you've never felt before. Shaking is encouraged! Arrive 15 minutes before your first class so that we can show you around and get you prepared.

I have no experience with ballet/dance. Can I still come?

Absolutely! Barre Body is not a dance class or a class tailored only for dancers. The barre and exercises are used to help you achieve a strong, lean, toned body.

How does a Barre Body class differ from a Lotte Berk or other modern barre based class?

Barre Body balances strengthening work with stretching, and is designed to tone your whole body. Barre Body workouts are never the same so you can be assured that your muscles will stay challenged. Lotte Berk-style classes focus on repetitions and speed with a minimal amount of stretching.

What do you do in a Barre Body Class?

The 60-minute class begins with a warm up followed by calf, thigh, and glute exercises at the ballet barre. Free weights are then used to work the shoulders, back, chest, tricep and bicep muscles. Abdominals are then strengthened and toned with intense core conditioning, and the thighs and glutes are again sculpted with more work on a mat. Deep, isometric stretches are used to fully stretch and lengthen muscles after each set of exercises.

How will Barre Body transform my body?

Barre Body classes offer personalized attention to ensure correct posture and alignment. Classes are non-impact and the pace is very athletic, altering from strengthening to stretching exercises nonstop like interval training. Barre Body classes at least 3 times per week will give you the long, lean, sculpted muscles. Barre Body strengthening exercises are more effective in developing lean muscle mass than weight lifting because you are using your own body weight as resistance. The stretching immediately following the strengthening will prevent muscle bulk and will enable you to increase flexibility.

How often can I take classes?

You can take as many classes per week as you would like. A good goal is 3-5 times per week. We focus on stretching each muscle after we work it to increase flexibility and minimize soreness.

Do I still need to do cardio in addition to Barre Body classes?

Barre Body is strength based and your heart rate will be elevated. We work every area of the body so you will see inches drop even without cardio. However, many clients feel their best when they combine cardio with the Barre Body classes.

When can I expect to see results?

You can begin to see and feel results in as little as 5 classes. This varies depending on how often you attend class and what your lifestyle and nutrition are like.

Can I take Barre Body classes if I am pregnant?

Yes! We recommend that you consult with your doctor before you begin any exercise program, and that you begin classes early in your pregnancy. Also, please tell your instructor if you are pregnant as we have several modifications that we do for each stage of pregnancy.

What is your class cancellation policy?

You are able to cancel classes online up to 1 hour in advance. If you need to cancel a class after 1 hours notice, you will need to call the studio to allow others who might be on the waiting list to attend class. If you do not contact us, the system will consider your absence a “no show”, and will automatically charge you for the class.

What is the waiting list policy?

If a class is full, our online scheduler will ask you if you would like to be placed on a waiting list. If you choose to be on the waiting list, we will contact you when space becomes available up to one hour prior to class. Please check your email and cell phone messages one hour prior to class to see if your spot has become available.
